How to Order Free Shipping Boxes from USPS

Many new sellers don’t realize this, but you can order a wide variety of shipping boxes directly from USPS for free and have them delivered right to your door.

Whether you use Priority Mail or Flat Rate shipping, this is one of the easiest ways to save money on supplies!

Step 1: Go to the USPS Website

  • Go to usps.com
  • In the top menu, click the “Shop” dropdown
  • Select “Shipping Supplies”

Step 2: Create an Account (If Needed)

  • If prompted, create a USPS account
  • Once completed, return to the Shipping Supplies section

Step 3: Filter for Free Supplies

  • On the left side of the page, check the filter for “Free Shipping Supplies”

You will now see items listed at $0.00

This is where you want to be.

Step 4: Choose the Right Box Types

Before ordering, it is important to understand the difference:

If you primarily use Priority or Ground Shipping:

  • Only order Priority Mail boxes (not Flat Rate)

If you plan to use Flat Rate Shipping:

  • Order Flat Rate boxes specifically

Step 5: Recommended Box Sizes

For regular Priority shipping (1–5 lbs), I use:

  • Side-Loading Large Box
  • Medium Cube Box
  • Priority Large Box
  • Priority Shoe Box

For Flat Rate shipping, I use:

  • Medium Flat Rate Box
  • Large Flat Rate Box

Step 6: Select Quantity

  • Click on the box you want
  • Choose your quantity

Most boxes come in packs of 25, and you can select how many packs you want.

Example:

  • 1 pack = 25 boxes
  • 4 packs = 100 boxes

Tip: I typically order around 100 of each size at a time.

Step 7: Add to Cart and Repeat

  • Add your selected boxes to your cart
  • Go back and add any additional sizes you want

Step 8: Checkout

  • Click on your cart
  • Go through the checkout process

You will see your total remain at $0.00 the entire time.

Your boxes will then be shipped directly to your door. You don't even need to leave the house!

Final Tip

Stocking up on free USPS boxes ahead of time:

  • Saves money
  • Saves last-minute supply runs
  • Keeps your shipping process smooth and consistent
